Se descubrió que usaban decodificadores modificados para negociar las señales.
En Colombia se allanó los establecimientos de tres operadores de televisión, los cuales transmitían de manera ilegal contenidos como Win Sports, Disney, Warner Bros, Ole Distribution y el de Direct TV sin sus respectivas autorizaciones. Las ciudades en donde ofrecían sus servicios eran Caldas, Magdalena y Valle del Cauca.
El operativo policial pudo incautar durante el allanamiento 11 decodificadores de Direct TV, 4 decodificadores de la empresa Movistar, 2 de la empresa Claro Colombia y 60 “decos” de FTA. Cabe resaltar que los decodificadores de FTA son aquellos que permiten desencriptar señales de canales con codificación y retransmitirlos a una gran cantidad de usuarios.
Se informó también que uno de los operadores de cable se proveía por la señal emitida por un servidor “madre” de IPTV, para así distribuir la señal a sus clientes, tal como explicaron los investigadores del caso tras culminar con los allanamientos.
Incluso se ofrecía una grilla de 99 canales y, mediante el uso del a tecnología FINGER PRINT, que permite detectar a través de una marca en pantalla la propiedad y origen de la señal transmitida, se constató la retransmisión ilegal de contenidos. Los controles con las bases de datos propias permitieron identificar, además, los decodificadores que se utilizaban en el acto de piratería
